For this the Swedish Sustainable Economy Foundation propose a flexible emissions taxes. But are more needed? A new report, cited in the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.independent.co.uk\/news\/science\/nitrogen-pollution-costs-are-revealed-2266228.html\">INDEPENDENT<\/a> calls for changes to how we handle nitrogen.<\/p>\n<p class=\"font-null\">The report by 200 experts from 21 countries warns that in Europe, the costs of nitrogen pollution on air, soils, water, increased greenhouse gases and damage to wildlife was between 70 billion euro and 320 billion euro a year (\u00a362 billion-\u00a3282 billion).<\/p>\n<p class=\"font-null\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.stockholmresilience.org\/research\/researchnews\/tippingtowardstheunknown\/quantitativeevolutionofboundaries.4.7cf9c5aa121e17bab42800043444.html\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft\" title=\"Nitrogen is one of three boundaries we have overshot\" src=\"http:\/\/www.stockholmresilience.org\/images\/18.7cf9c5aa121e17bab42800043477\/PB-quantitative-evolution.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"540\" height=\"332\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"font-null\">\n<p class=\"font-null\">\n<p class=\"font-null\">\n<p class=\"font-null\">\n<p class=\"font-null\">\n<p class=\"font-null\">\n<p class=\"font-null\">\n<pre>The diagram above shows the planetary boundaries that have already been overshot. Nitrogen is one of them.\nThanks to the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.stockholmresilience.org\/research\/researchnews\/tippingtowardstheunknown\/thenineplanetaryboundaries.4.1fe8f33123572b59ab80007039.html\">Stockholm Resilience Center<\/a> for the diagram<\/pre>\n<p class=\"font-null\">The cost works out at between \u00a3130 and \u00a3650 a year for everyone in Europe.<\/p>\n<p class=\"font-null\">We cannot continue with economic models that promote externalisation and result in each citizen footing the bill.<\/p>\n<p class=\"font-null\">One model that has been proposed to address the economic challenge of externalities is the flexible emissions fee model from the Swedish Sustainable Economics Foundation.
